Homemade Salted Egg Challenge | Itlog na Maalat | Brining Method | Maria Quick

In this video, I'll be sharing how to make your own salted egg. If you don't have clay mud there's another way on how to make it easy, using the brining method or salt solution with chicken or duck eggs cured in a simple salt solution. Totally worth the wait!

Just prepare all you need:

2 cups of rock salt
2 tbsp. of black pepper (ground or whole)
1/2 cup of white or brown sugar
1 pot
1 jar or plastic container with a cover

Just follow the instructions:

SALT SOLUTION

1. Put 6 cups of water in a medium pot, and bring it to boil.
2. Upon boiling, add your rock salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir until it diluted, then turn off the fire.
3. Let it cool down.

BRINING METHOD

1. Pour the salt solution into a jar containing rinsed eggs. Filled a small ziplock sandwich bag half full with water. Squeeze as much of the air out as possible. Gently stuff it into a jar to weigh eggs down. Eggs should be totally submerged.

2. Put the lid on and place the jar in a room temperature and dark place for 21 days.

3. After 21 days, do a taste test. Remove an egg from the brine and boil over medium heat for 15 minutes. The egg is ready if it is salty and the yolk is a bright yellow-orange color.

4. If eggs are not ready, leave them in the brine for another week or exactly 30 days. Finally, remove all eggs from the brine and store them in the refrigerator.
