Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen

Blurring the lines between machine and animal, art and science, sculpture and performance, Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen made its Midwest debut this Winter at the Chicago Cultural Center. Dutch artist Theo Jansen has spent the last 25 years developing his uncanny and beautiful Strandbeests—or “beach creatures”—which today have become a global phenomenon. Jansen and CHF’s Emeritus Artistic Director Lawrence Weschler discuss these mythical creatures.

Presented in partnership with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events.

This program was recorded on February 7, 2016.
