Seven weeks long trip to Himalayas – Tibet and Nepal – was real cultural shock and at the same time wake up call for all of us living in our artificial bubble of Western society.
Not only religious discipline of Tibetan Buddhism but just pure living condition of people in high and often difficult to reach location of small villages on slopes of Annapurna and Mount Everest were definitely outside of imagination of anybody who has never visited these far away and forgotten places of our planet.

Buddhist Prostration and its practice was than particularly difficult to comprehend. In Lhasa round temples it was somehow understandable. But when we met groups of pilgrims far up in the mountains prostrating all the way toward Lhasa I really couldn’t understand the mentality and mainly iron strong character people who can ever made commitment to journey sometimes over 2,000 km to Lhasa – trip which can easily last more than 2 years in harsh condition of Tibetan Plateau with insane winters an really high altitudes.
Either my preparation for trip was not on level where it suppose to be or their way of living is so extreme and distance to our understanding of living condition. (Beside other kids walking to school some 8 km each way on daily basis in any kind of weather condition).

To know about Prostration is one thing – to see it in reality of Himalayas condition is something totally different.

After return from Himalayas we were strongly convinced to change our private live requirements dramatically since living there just 7 weeks showed us how unnecessary is our demand for luxury – but honestly this decision to change our life is difficult to implement here. So we slowly converted to life in our artificial bubble with our religion of Shopping Centers Temples.

However I believe it would be really educational for most of the people from West to visit Himalayas. It might change our life only for better.
