"Play to Win" S1 E3: An MLM Horror Story of Abuse, Public Shaming, and Manipulation
This video is a candid and unfiltered reaction to the disturbing reality show put on by the Higdon Group.
I explore the manipulation tactics used to create compliance, including emotional and psychological abuses, constant public shaming, and trauma bonding exercises.
Many of the people involved in this "reality show" are my friends or were my friends. We believed we were part of something special and beautiful. We didn't see the abuse. Many still don't.
Rank Makers is a group on Facebook that at it's peak had 16,000 people in it from all over the world. You paid to join it and received training videos on how to grow your network marketing business...and also enter into an infinite loop of buying more and more courses to improve your mindset.
Some people from this reality have disappeared from social media. Some people are still deep within the MLM industry and have replicated this abusive behaviour in new schemes and grifts. Some are too afraid to speak out because the Higdon Group has collateral on them in the form of video confessions that if released to the public could damage their family and personal relationships and reputations.
Many people within the network marketing industry look up to and learn from Ray Higdon. I was one of them.
The abusive behaviour we see replicated and duplicated in the MLM industry can be traced back to his coaching as well as other coaches in the MLM space too.
Let me be clear - under no circumstances is it ever ok to abuse someone else. People in abusive relationships do NOT deserve continued abuse.
The MLM coaching industry has operated without much scrutiny because most people are unaware it even exists.
This so-called reality show is a stark example of what's going on, what's considered coaching, what's considered ethical business practices within the MLM industry.
As you watch this, please exercise empathy. It is a common knee-jerk reaction to want to distance ourselves from uncomfortable scenarios by saying things like, "that would never happen to me" or play out what if scenarios like, "if that was me, I would have reacted differently."
The truth is it could happen to you. The people involved in this reality show could be you. They could be your friend or family member.
