The Kelpies - May 2026

The Kelpies in Scottish folklore are malevolent, shape-shifting water spirits , usually appearing as horses that haunt rivers and lochs to lure people to a watery death. Such tales thus warned children to stay away from dangerous waters.

These 30 metre high scultures (designed by Andy Scott) are found between Falkirk and Grangemouth beside the M9 motorway and they are in honour of the heavy horses used to pull the wagons, ploughs, barges, and coalships that shaped the geographical and commercial landscape of the time.
