How to test for Bakelite plastic. valuable plastic jewelry. Hello everyone, I made this video to show you how to test your plastic jewelry to see if you have Bakelite plastic jewelry. The first step is to get some warm water and baking soda. Then take a Q-tip and dip it into the water and then take the saturated Q-tip and dip it in the baking soda. Now take that and rub it on the item you think is Bakelite . If the Q-tip does not turn yellow then it’s not Bakelite. If the Q-tip does turn yellow then most likely you have Bakelite plastic. If the Q-tip turns yellow you most likely have Bakelite plastic.
