Elite Dangerous Odyssey - Survival Mechanics?

Over the past week - there's been bits of information cropping up here and there regarding Odyssey, giving some insight into what may or may not be in the expansion. Most of this has come from various interviews with the gaming press. Whilst Frontier have been typically tight lipped with details, there's nonetheless a few things that are worth taking a look at.
