Violence again erupted in the Northeastern State of Manipur again as tension gripped parts of Imphal East after Indian army and paramilitary forces fired teargas shells on participants of a torch rally held at Khurai Lamlong.

Manipur has remained on edge since the 2023 ethnic violence between the Hindu-majority Meitei and Christian-majority Kuki-Zo communities, which left more than 260 people dead, most of them Christians. Since then, the communities have largely remained segregated, while thousands of people continue to be displaced from their homes.
