PRRD Talk To The People Rewind! / April 14, 2022

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte meets with some of his Cabinet Secretaries and top government officials to discuss several issues of national concern, including the latest development on the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation in the country, during his Talk to the People held this week in Davao City.
The President says that there is a possibility of another COVID-19 surge in the country with the presence of variants amid the relaxed restrictions, political rallies this campaign season and religious gatherings. As such, he reiterates the importance of getting booster shots and at the same time maintaining the established health protocols in order to be protected from the virus. He stresses that the policy of wearing face mask remains to be strictly enforced until the end of his term.
Relatively, he calls on the officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to encourage Muslim Filipinos to get inoculated since the number of vaccinated people in the Region remains to be low. The President says that he directed National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. to go to Cotabato City in order to ramp up vaccination efforts in BARMM and Region 12.
Secretary Galvez discusses strategies to increase vaccination figures in BARMM while Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año reports that they would strictly enforce the current Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) guidelines on religious services in BARMM that would only allow vaccinated individuals to go inside the mosques to worship.
Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire presents the latest COVID-19 figures from April 5-11, 2022 showing that the Philippines remains under a low risk classification. She reminds the public to refrain from doing ‘penitensya’ activities to avoid tetanus, as well as the kissing of saints and imageries in churches, to be safe and protected from different kinds of viruses this Holy Week.
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad reports the latest situation on areas affected by Tropical Storm ‘Agaton’ (Megi).
On other matters, President Duterte relays his recent public engagements and reiterates his commitment that the upcoming May national elections will be peaceful, fair and safe.
