The Mystery of the Firstborn

What does this mean, "Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son, 23 and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’” (Exodus 4:22-23) Scripture contains a profound mystery concerning God's firstborn son. What is it? Is it just that Jesus Christ is the firstborn son of God? Or, is there something even deeper, something relating to the very purpose of man's creation?
