Communities and conservation in Namibia
Namibia has an international reputation as a haven for wildlife. The reality however is that until recently, wildlife in large parts of the country, particularly the extensive communal areas, was in severe decline. "By the people for the people" is the story of how communal conservancies in Namibia are adopting community-based natural resource management practices. As a result, game numbers are increasing, benefits are accruing to local communities and the foundations of rural development and regional cooperation are being strengthened.
