“The Optimist” features the comic adventures of a daydreaming everyman who causes chaos and confusion.

In the tradition of Buster Keaton, Stan Laurel and Jaques Tati, and with a touch of a Walter Mitty, he’s the eternal romantic even when the realities of life are stacked against him.

Filmed on location in Los Angeles, London, and Cabo San Lucas between 1981 and 1984, this ambitious British comedy series preceded Mr Bean by seven years.

Season One featured seven films set in Los Angeles and Cabo San Lucas. Among the adventures, the Optimist gets into a gunfight in a Wild West town; enters a mini Grand Prix; stays at the world’s strictest health farm; and duels his way across Hollywood.

Enn Reitel stars as the Optimist.

Shot on film, the two-season series has been extensively restored and remixed.
