The town of Rubtsovsk in Siberia was a major manufacturer of motorized machinery after WWII, most notably the T-4 tractors. After the break-up of the Soviet Union the factory shut down and 25,000 jobs were lost. The ATM factory is one of the few factories left in the area.
The vehicle has a 14-liter diesel engine and is covered in plate steel. Large companies such as Gazprom and Rosneft use them to go where other vehicles can not. Production of the GT-GR MARAL tracked-carrier vehicle began in 2005.
In 2007 the TEGEREK model was released, based on the GT-TR Maral. "Tegerek" has a reinforced bottom and a new body style and is designed especially for the construction of "winter roads" - temporary roads in the snow in the conditions of the Far North. These machines are currently operated by Surgutneftegaz.
