Functional power lines, using tripwire
Using tripwire, you can send a redstone signal across great distances, placing transmission towers every 42 blocks (40 string/tripwire and 1 hook on each end). Using boats at each tower we activate the tripwire and continue sending the signal further.
Note, for the signal to reach where you want it to go each chunk where the power lines are must be loaded.
The first version shown sends a signal very quickly, but takes a while to clear the signal out of the system when deactivated, due to each boat having to fall out of the tripwire before the next one can.
The second version also sends a signal just as fast, and only allows a short pulse to go through, making deactivation or serialization much quicker. This is due to the boats being pushed up on the half slabs and only momentarily activating the tripwire.
