Anniversary Dinner Keynote Speaker: ADM William McRaven USN Retired
Admiral William H. McRaven is a retired U.S. Navy Four-Star admiral and the former Chancellor of the University of Texas System. During his time in the military, he commanded special operations forces at every level, eventually taking charge of the U.S. Special Operations Command. His career included combat during Desert Storm and both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. He commanded the troops that captured Saddam Hussein and rescued Captain Phillips. McRaven is also credited with developing the plan and leading the Osama bin Laden mission in 2011.
His keynote at DARPA’s 60th anniversary dinner makes the case for DARPA’s profound contributions to national security and the world. He also offers a candid assessment of his first impressions and reluctant adoption of some of DARPA’s most notable technologies, relaying how skepticism became wonder and incorporation of indispensable tools for military operations.
ADM McRaven’s remarks were delivered during DARPA’s 60th anniversary symposium, D60, which took place Sept. 5-7, 2018, at Gaylord National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland.
