The Midnight Knock

The gentle tap at the window started softly but grew urgent. Sarah's heart raced; she knew she was alone. She grabbed her flashlight and hesitated before peeking through the curtains. A shadowy figure stood outside, its face obscured. Suddenly, the knocking stopped, replaced by a whisper, "Let me in." Sarah's blood turned to ice. She stumbled back, tripping over the coffee table, and the flashlight flew from her hand, plunging the room into darkness. The whispering grew louder, more insistent. She fumbled for her phone, dialing 911, but the call wouldn't go through. Panic set in as she realized the shadow was now inside her house. She could hear footsteps approaching. "Sarah..." the voice called out. Her breath hitched. The door to the room creaked open slowly. Her eyes widened as she saw it—an empty, lifeless face staring right at her. She screamed, but no sound came out. The last thing she heard was the whisper, "I’m already inside."
