In this video I compare the original power tubes in my 1993 Peavey 5150 Block Letter to a brand new set of Svetlana tubes. I want to know is upgrading power tubes worth the money...

Spoiler alert: the new tubes definitely sound brighter and more open when playing guitar isolated, but within a mix it becomes much more nuanced.

I had the option to upgrade my tubes from the original factory tubes and I wanted to know if it was actually worth the (roughly) $200CAD cost. I figured I'd make a video in case anywhere else out there was thinking of doing the same.

Disclaimer: this is by no means a scientific and definitive test. Also, your amp and signal chain will sound different than mine. There are many different models and brands of power tubes out there, so this is not an extensive test by any stretch.

I simply wanted to know is it worth $200 to upgrade to these higher end Svetlana tubes from the original Chinese made tubes that came stock with this 5150 Block Letter.
