The AC joint is the part of shoulder articulation which incorporates the joint of acromion with clavicle. Many patients come to us with this problem. This problem is particularly common with patients who are lifting heavy weights and doing work out at gym.
Acromioclavicular joint is a Diarthroidal joint present in vicinity of the shoulder joint. It is the articulation between the clavicle and Acromion. It is one of a very common joint involved with arthritis and can cause a severe pain. There are many causes of AC arthritis, Degenerative, post traumatic, Inflammatory and Septic. AC Arthritis is diagnosed on basis of clinical examination and Investigations. The 2 most common investigations performed are X Ray and MRI scans. Most patients will be relieved with conservative measures. Now a days those patinens who are not improved with the Conservative treatment are offered arthroscopic distal Clavicle excision.
