भारत के आखिरी गांव तुरतुक की सैर I Turtuk in Ladakh - The Last Village on India & Pakistan Border
Nestled just 7 kilometers away from the Line of Control, Turtuk boasts a rich history as part of the Baltistan region in Pakistan until the Indo-Pak war of 1971, following which it became integrated into India. While he is an engineer by profession, he finds equal fulfillment in teaching and guiding visitors through immersive tours of his village.
Early in the morning, we embarked on a leisurely stroll through the village with Yaseen, immersing ourselves in its rustic charm. However, as Yaseen had to return to his teaching commitments, we joined Raj, the knowledgeable guide at the Balti museum for further exploration. Raj skillfully guided us through the museum, unveiling the unique Turtuk's history. From ancient woolen garments to aged cooking vessels, each artifact whispered tales of the village's rich heritage.
Next we checked out the cold storage and marveled at the villagers' ingenuity in preserving essentials like butter and wool.
From the cold storage, we proceeded to explore a war bunker, where Raj provided us with a detailed background of its significance in the village's history.
Reuniting with Yaseen later, we savoured mulberry juice at a café managed by a women's self-help group. Once again, as he tended to his commitments, we took the opportunity to explore the Balti kitchen on our own. Here, we had the pleasure of meeting Abdul Rashid, father of Rashidullah Khan, who graciously enlightened us about Balti cuisine before leading us to his apple, apricot and grape orchards.
As twilight descended, Yaseen took us to the Walnut Cafe. The charismatic owner, Ghulam Bhai, regaled us with his warmth, joviality and enthusiasm.
Our journey culminated at the ISU Homestay, managed by the gracious Ali Hussain Bilqees Bano, where we were enveloped in the warmth of the community's stories and flavours.
