Riding Lawnmower Wiring - Upgrading to Solid State Ignition

In today's video, we upgrade from a "Points" style ignition to a "Solid State" ignition!

When we purchased this machine, not only would it not start, but it didn't even turn over, meaning we had an electrical issue with the starting circuit!

I'll take you through the steps of diagnosing something like this & even show you how to get rid of those annoying safety switches (Not that I recommend it though!).

Once we figured out the starting circuit, when we turned the key, the starter engaged & the engine "turned over".

Once that part was out of the way, I removed the old "Points" style coil & swapped in a brand new "Solid State" coil that I purchased on Amazon for just $18!

That solves the issue of not having spark, at this point, we're ready to fire up the engine! After doing a quick scrap run, I fire this machine up for the 1st time in years!

I still have some minor carburetor adjustments to make, but all in all, this machine turned out pretty good for a $86 total investment!

I should be able to sell this machine for around $350 for a total profit of about $260!
