The production works significantly harder than its budget suggests and benefits from a lead performance by Cheryl Lawson that takes the material seriously -- a rare quality in low-budget late-80s horror that makes the film considerably more effective than it has any right to be. The VHS was a major presence in video stores throughout the era, with box art that stopped browsers in their tracks regardless of whether they were horror fans. It built its entire audience through rental discovery and has been a serious collector's item ever since.
