It might seem like I have some sort of obsession with blowing up the Golden Gate Bridge, but the truth is... I do. But so do my viewers, since the most watched videos on my channel mostly revolve around the Golden Gate Bridge, and it's the most used search term for my entire channel. So I thought: why not destroy it again, in one last awesome all-out 3D collapse?

I've had this idea for a while now for a big action scene in a blockbuster movie, where the main characters would be in a speedboat and go under a bridge just as it explodes. After a while, when I got a little more accustomed to After Effects I thought, what the hell, let's just make it myself. It doesn't look exactly like my idea (that would be more photo-realistic and awesome), but it comes close :D

There are actually a lot of mistakes here that I only noticed AFTER rendering the video, but because it took so long to render I didn't fix them... For example: the ocean in the background clearly having a corner in the second shot, the lack of a background behind the hills in the first shot, and the hills generally being a little "2D". This mostly happened because I made the fourth shot first, so the scene was "optimized" for that shot. Then I put the camera in different positions, but forgot to fix the mistakes that popped up because of that.

I used only Trapcode Particular for the debris and the splash, and the rest was all standard plug-ins inside After Effects. Making the model of the bridge was a lot of fun! I tried to get all the proportions as accurate as possible, and I think it looks pretty great.
