BMW S58 Engine(s): Different Configurations under the hood

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 15 (S02E15): The S58 is the M-Division's 3.0L 6-cylinder engine (designation S58B30T0), producing 473 to 503hp, found in the new M3 and new M4, X3M and X4M. But there appears to be more than one version of the engine. In this video I'll explain why there are very different looking S58 engines between the M3/M4 and X3M/X4M. Some believe the basic engine producing 473hp is designated S58B30O0 and that the competition version of the engine producing 503hp is designated S58B30T0. However this would imply some technical difference between the engines, beyond tune. Looking at the illustrated parts catalogue the competition and non-competition versions have the same pistons, rings and rods, crankshaft, bearings, oil pump, water pumps, cylinder heads, fuel pumps, turbos, intercooler, etc. There is no physical difference between the competition and non-competition version of the engines. Furthermore, the BWM manuals indicate the 473hp version is the S58B30T0. So I believe the S58B30O0 does not currently exist and that the early marketing material from BMW which mentioned the S58B30O0 is not accurate. Here are the power outputs per car based on BMW:
M3/M4 = 353kW / 480hp / 550Nm (473hp / 406 lbft)
M3/M4 Comp = 375kW / 510hp / 650Nm (503hp / 479lbft)
X3M/X4M = 353kW / 480hp / 620Nm (473hp / 456 lbft)
X3M/X4M Comp = 375kW / 510hp / 650Nm (503hp / 479lbft)
