Instruments in Helium and Sulfur Hexafluoride: Experiment

A trumpet and trombone are played filled with a lighter than air gas (Helium) and a heavier than air gas (Sulfur Hexafluoride). We actually had slightly better sound recordings but this was the only video we took.
The resonant frequency is determined by the length of the instrument and the speed of sound in the gas inside. Changing the gas changes the speed of sound which changes the resonant frequency.
The frequency played by a string instrument is determined by the length of the string and the speed of sound on the string which is determined by its density and tension. Filling a guitar with gas might change some of the harmonic overtones but would not change the fundamental resonance frequency of the string. So the pitch would remain constant but the timbre might change a little.
