DIY: How to make a pattern for a one-piece sleeve. How to design a blouse with a dolman sleeve.

Today I'll tell you about the one-piece sleeve.
I have a sketch – we'll make a blouse with a one-piece sleeve. There will be no tucks on it.
There are a lot items with the one-piece sleeve made nowadays – dresses, sweaters of any design. The bodice with a whole-piece sleeve can turn into a flared skirt, gathered skirt, flutters and so on.
We are going to use the cambric with the embroidery. I'm going to make a very light blouse which will be comfortable to wear at work.
I'll use a basic pattern which was made on the basis of the 10-measurement system.
I'm going to show you my own development. Maybe it won’t coincide with what is written in the books, but I always use this technique and everything is okay.
What is good about this method is that we need just the back. We don’t need the front and the sleeve now.
When designing a one-piece sleeve, the side seam should be in the very middle of the basic pattern.
When the pattern is ready, I can put the basic pattern aside. After it I’ll put the fabric on a table and start cutting. You’ll see how fast and easy a one-piece sleeve can be made.
Remember that we add 5 mm for the seams on the neckline, and 1 cm everywhere else including the sleeve.
We take the pattern of the back and make the pattern of a back with the one-piece sleeve of it. We don’t use the sleeve pattern at all.
I don’t want the blouse to be long, so I don’t add anything for an overcast.
You should understand that there’s nothing hard. It seems so hard to design such blouse, but actually it takes just a couple of minutes to do it. You make the shoulder seem longer, draw a right angle and then design a sleeve depending on how loose you want a sleeve to be.
There are just 2 different details in the back and the front – the balance on the shoulder and the neckline.
I want to make a round neckline, because I will wear this blouse just to work. It’s hot outside, so such a nice cambric blouse will be of the great need.
I recommend designing the one-piece sleeves for a lot of items – home clothes, sport, vacation. You will feel really comfortable in such items.
If you take the cambric with an embroidery, be ready to break several needles.
It takes just 20 minutes to prepare an item for the stitching.
The method I show you is very simple. I know different ways of designing the one-piece sleeve, but it’s usually really hard to make the seams match.
Remember that we tack only on a table, holding an item with one hand. Don’t ever tack on your knees.
The blouse is very nice. I just need to stitch the 3 seams and process the edges. This is a very nice light blouse.
