A major security scare shut down Avalon Airport this morning after a suspicious item, later revealed to be a laser hair removal device, triggered an emergency response from the bomb squad.

10 News Melbourne’s Abby Dinham spoke exclusively with the owner of the item, who said police thought a container of hot chocolate in his backpack “looked like C4”. However, he did not comment on the hair removal device.

The man was detained before being released without charge after the airport was evacuated for several hours.
