✨ Rational Numbers – Explanation

Definition:
A number is called a Rational Number if it can be expressed in the form p/q, where p and q are integers and q ≠ 0.

🔹 Key Points:

Every integer is a rational number, since it can be written as p/1.

Example: 5 = 5/1, 0 = 0/1

Rational numbers can be positive or negative.

Example: 7/9 (positive), –11/3 (negative)

Rational numbers in decimal expansion can be:

Terminating decimals → Example: 1/4 = 0.25

Non-terminating recurring decimals → Example: 2/3 = 0.666…

Rational numbers are different from irrational numbers, which cannot be expressed as p/q.

Example: √2, π are irrational numbers.

12 = 12/1 → Rational Number

0 = 0/1 → Rational Number

✨ Rational Numbers (பகுத்தெண்ணுகள்)

வரையறை (Definition):
ஒரு எண் p/q (p, q ∈ முழு எண்கள், q ≠ 0) என்ற வடிவில் எழுதப்படக்கூடியதானால், அதை பகுத்தெண் (Rational Number) என்று அழைப்போம்.

🔹 முக்கிய அம்சங்கள் (Important Points):

p – எண் முழு எண் (Integer) ஆகும்.

q – எண் முழு எண் ஆனால் 0 ஆக இருக்கக் கூடாது.

எல்லா முழு எண்களும் Rational Numbers தான், ஏனெனில் அவற்றை p/1 என்று எழுதலாம்.

உதாரணம்: 5 = 5/1, 0 = 0/1

நேர்ம Rational Numbers (Positive) மற்றும் எதிர்ம Rational Numbers (Negative) இரண்டும் உண்டு.

உதா: 3/4 (Positive), –7/5 (Negative)

Rational Numbers ஐ decimal form-ஆக எழுதினால் இரண்டு வகைப்படும்:

Terminating Decimal (முடியும் தசமம்) → 1/2 = 0.5

Non-Terminating Recurring Decimal (முடியாத சுழல்கூடிய தசமம்) → 1/3 = 0.333…
