Russian field engineers have begun clearing mines in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, as seen in footage from near Stepanakert on Monday.

Sappers were seen detecting grenades and ammunition near Stepanakert, with the aid of using metal detectors and service dogs.

According to the official representative of the Russian Defence Ministry Igor Konashenkov, about 100 specialists and 13 pieces of equipment were transferred to Nagorno-Karabakh to carry out demining tasks, including the Uran-6 multi-functional robotic complex.

Following weeks of hostilities, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered deal to end the fighting over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Under the terms of the deal, 1,960 Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the disputed region to monitor the ceasefire.

The agreement also sees Azerbaijan obtaining control of the territory taken in the most recent fighting, and Armenia relinquishing control of further areas held since the 1990s.
