Cooking 3 Tons of Fish in a Mammoth Pan. Street Food in Camogli, Italy

Camogli, Liguria, Italy. The Fish Festival is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. The festivities take place in Piazza Colombo, the piazza of the small port. The Sagra was conceived by the lawyer Filippo Degregori and the first edition was held in 1952. The first year they were built on the square of the brick kitchens and throughout the day they continued to fry in six small pans. The introduction of the first padellone took place in 1954, weighed 11 quintals, had a diameter of 4 Mt. and a handle of 6 Mt. in length. In 1960 a new bigger pan arrived 5 meters in diameter. The following year both pans were used. In the seventies another pan came into operation, and in 1986 a fourth one was added, of 4 meters in diameter. In 2001, for the fifty Sagra, comes a new pan, not in iron but in stainless steel, as required by the safety regulations, weighs 28 quintals, a diameter of 4 Mt., a handle of 6 Mt. and throughout the day fry 30,000 fish dishes, using 3 tons of fresh fish and 3,000 liters of oil. A copy of Camogli's pan is used in Yokohama. The Sagra del Pesce attracts thousands of Italian tourists every year foreigners

La Sagra del Pesce si festeggia la seconda domenica di maggio. I festeggiamenti hanno luogo in Piazza Colombo, la piazza del porticciolo. La Sagra è stata ideata dall'avvocato Filippo Degregori e la prima edizione si tenne nel 1952. Il primo anno vennero costruite sulla piazza delle cucine in mattoni e per tutto il giorno si continuò a friggere in sei piccole padelle. L'introduzione del primo padellone avvenne nel 1954,pesava 11 quintali, aveva un diametro di 4 Mt. e un manico di 6 Mt. di lunghezza. Nel 1960 arrivò una nuova padella più grande 5 Mt. di diametro. L'anno seguente vennero utilizzate entrambe le padelle. Negli anni settanta entra in funzione un'altra padella, e nel 1986 se ne aggiunge una quarta, di 4 Mt. di diametro. Nel 2001, per la cinquantesima Sagra, arriva una nuova padella, non è in ferro ma in acciaio inossidabile, come prevedono le normative sulla sicurezza, pesa 28 quintali, un diametro di 4 Mt., un manico di 6 Mt. e durante tutta la giornata frigge 30.000 piatti di pesce, utilizzando 3 tonnellate di pesce fresco e 3.000 litri di olio. Una copia della padella di Camogli viene utilizzata a Yokohama. La Sagra del Pesce richiama ogni anno migliaia di turisti italiani e stranieri
