Power Outage (on purpose) & SE Corner Windows Removed! 15 September 2023 Giga Texas Update (08:25AM)

Gigafactory Texas on 15 September 2023! This is where Model Y’s and Cyber Truck production happens!

Today was the return of clouds, rain and misty skies across Giga Texas, making for a slightly unpleasant flying environment, but at least it was much cooler! At the end of my flight, I talked to some Tesla employees and found out the power was being shut off inside the main factory today (for a few hours) to allow electrical work to commence, possibly due to getting the new electrical switchyard ready to add electricity to the plant and also, because of the large amount of new electrical systems and equipment installed inside the factory, all of which is being made ready to be powered up and tested.

Another big change today is the removal of windows at the southeast corner of stamping. The windows are being stacked onto racks (like we saw happening on the southwest corner) and there are steel frames and studs already assembled and ready to be installed as soon as the windows are removed. Blue temporary panels are then installed immediately onto the steel frames. Nearby, the CFA pile drilling operation continues, making more piles at the base of the center portion of the main factory walls.

Some additional highlights from today include:

The west main entrance is getting more of the lighting system installed along the beams and columns, and all the stainless-steel cladding has been installed as well. We now know the shiny black material is called Stoneglass (TM) by the company with the same name and originates from Italy. This company is also on contract with Tesla for the same entrance designed trapezoidal feature using the same material. I know this because it is featured on their main website!

The electrical switchyard south end vault, conduits and control trailers looks nearly completed and with the power out at the main factory, work is apparently underway with some live connections as well! Nearby at the Megapack site, we see a concrete pump truck delivering concrete to the north end large conduit trenched area. This is a great sign this work is also nearing completion!

The crash testing facility has now had the crash wall installed near the camera and sensor pit. In addition, more work inside getting this facility ready for possible first testing appears underway, and the mechanical room, cable trench and other equipment seems fully installed and operational currently. The two Cybertrucks still remain just on the outside awaiting their turn to try out the crash wall.
