The truth about Britain and slavery

In our current discourse on race, the history of slavery is being to some degree weaponised. It’s something that has made us more polarised not less. We can wave that to one side, arguing that we all agree that slavery was bad, but it’s time to move on. And I have done that. But we should know the history, even if we’re not going to let ourselves be defined by it. So what is the story behind Britain and black slavery? And what can we learn from it?
