(Graphic) Seal Rescue at Mowe Bay!!

On a field trip up the Namibian coast, the rescue team from OCN had the very unique opportunity to check for seal entanglements 500km away from the closest harbour town. Nobody knew what to expect, and the team was hopeful to find no entanglements at all, because there are very few human settlements in that area. The team was shocked to find an entangled seal almost immediately.
They grab the net and run towards the seals - many of them would never ever in their lives have encountered a human being before. Naude first catches the wrong seal by accident, but eventually they succeed and catch the entangled seal. The seal is deeply wounded by an old piece of very old packaging strap. They cut it more than once to release the tension on the animal's neck and safely remove it from her. It was a painful removal for the seal, but she seemed strong and ready to fight for her life.
We have seen some bad entanglements before and we are hopeful she will make a full recovery. The salt water will help her. 🦭
