What is Shabbat? Shabbat is a holiday that happens every week, celebrating the creation of the world and celebrating freedom from slavery by taking one day a week to just enjoy the world as it is, without creating new things or getting sucked into the everyday grind of making a living. Shabbat is also a wonderful day to spend with friends and family - schmoozing, eating, praying, singing, learning, or just napping. All this makes "Shabbat" a nice Jewish word.
