Blur Fact Four #leisure #albums

"Leisure" was recorded during the height of Madchester and shoegaze, and you can hear it all over the album. Still finding their identity, the band leaned into psychedelic, baggy beats, heavily influenced by bands like The Stone Roses. Songs like “There’s No Other Way” captured the danceable grooves of the era, but behind the scenes, the sessions were tense.

Producer Stephen Street clashed with the band, especially Graham Coxon, who disliked the album’s over-reliance on effects and reverb. Damon Albarn later dismissed Leisure as a product of record label pressure, saying it didn’t fully represent what Blur wanted to be. The album may not have been their peak, but it laid the groundwork for the Britpop revolution to come.
