Back Up your RV like a pro with Pro Trailer Back-up Assist

One of the most stressful things about towing a trailer is having to back it up. If you don’t do this frequently - reversing can be an incredibly stressful situation. It takes a lot of practice as it goes against everything that we learn when we drive. As a new RVer this was the biggest adjustment that I had to make; and I know that I am not alone. I have seen arguments and tears at RV parks while people get frustrated and annoyed with each other while trying to park. Doing most of this on my own I have a massive appreciation for all of the new technology in trucks and SUVs for towing. Back up camera, hitch guidance and now Pro Trailer Back up assist! Ford says, “It takes the hassle out of backing up a trailer. It handles the steering, allowing you to focus on monitoring the mirrors and controlling the braking. You can save information for multiple trailers, making switching between them quick and easy.” If we have technology that will make this easier, I say bring it on! As an automotive journalist this technology has always intrigued me. However, it wasn’t until I bought my travel trailer last year that I have had a reason to put this new technology to the test.

From beginning to end, it took me 1:06 to set up and calibrate this system. You will need to have about one city block to drive STRAIGHT and SLOW to calibrate your trailer and SUV. This was the biggest hassle for me as the farm I am parked on had very limited space and I had to hop on a side road to make this work
