II (AC) Sqn Royal Air Force Lossiemouth Freedom Of Angus ceremonial parade in Montrose Scotland 2019

Number II (Army Cooperation) Squadron Royal Air Force received the honour of the Freedom of Angus on Friday 26th July 2019. The ceremonial parade in Montrose Town Centre and flypast by two II (AC) Squadron Typhoons marked 106 years since the Squadron was first stationed at Montrose Air Station, under the Royal Flying Corps. The Central Band of the RAF performed the music during the ceremony and parade.

Around 60 personnel from II (AC) Squadron, based at RAF Lossiemouth, received the Freedom of Angus from the Angus Provost, Mr Ronnie Procter. The parade was led by Officer Commanding II (AC) Squadron, Wing Commander Jim “Rosie” Lee, marking the end of his tenure as the Officer Commanding of II (AC) Squadron. The Lord Lieutenant of Angus, Mrs Georgiana Osborne, and the Station Commander of RAF Lossiemouth, Group Captain Jim Walls, took the salute.

Under the Royal Flying Corps, the squadron was the first to land its aircraft at Montrose Air Base in 1913 and is recognised as the oldest fixed wing squadron in the world. They were granted the Freedom of Angus in the RAF's Centenary year 2018 following a request from the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre.
