Jumper’s Knee: Collagen Turns Over Fast (Fix Patellar Tendinopathy)

When I had Jumper’s Knee (Patellar Tendinopathy), doctors told me to rest for 3 months because collagen takes a long time to turnover. Research by Heinemeier supports this (in the core of the Achilles’ tendon). Study here: https://faseb.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1096/fj.12-225599

This makes sense because blood flow and metabolic demand of tendon are low.

But, the same group found, when there is tendinopathy present, the collagen actually turns over more than healthy tendon. Study here: https://faseb.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1096/fj.201701569R

And another studied showed high turnover rates in the patellar tendon compared to the vastus lateralis muscle. Study here: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0224745

So what does this mean? Watch the video.
