Channel Islands Happy Spine-Tek Review

Ian Reviews The Channel Islands Happy Spine-Tek: https://www.boardshop.co.uk/surfboards?brand_id=25&style=2034

The Channel Islands Happy in the technically brilliant and beautiful looking Spine-Tek technology.

The Happy started out as a hand shaped prototype for Dane, a high performance shortboard with a great "engine" for down the line speed and a thinned out and seriously rockered tail for tighter turns in good quality waves.

Brit Merrick has fine tuned and renamed the board the 'Happy'...the better you surf the happier you get!

The Happy shortboard is proving a huge hit with team riders on the tour like Zeke Lau and Lakey Peterson who have both been absolutely ripping on this clever little board.

The Happy is way more than "just another pointy HPSB", it's been tested and fine tuned with some very clever innovations. The volume has been moved forward delivering good paddle speed and early wave entry with plenty of foam under your front foot for essential speed in the barrel. The rocker has been kept pretty low at the front while the tail has some serious lift loosening the board and allowing radically fast and snappy turns in the critical part of the wave. This is a pretty forgiving board while at the same time being very fast and responsive thanks to the thinned out tail and refined rails which hold like you wouldn't believe! The Happy has an intricate set of concaves; single under the front foot transitioning into double through the fins and flat out the tail giving the perfect combination of down the line speed and control.

The Happy would suit a decent surfer looking for a HPSB with some dialled in control and plenty of speed down the line and in the barrel. A great option for the travelling surfer who wants to travel with only one or two boards (how about a custom build with a rounded pin as a slight step-up? drop us an email or ring).

Spine-Tek technology is the result of a Channel Islands and Shapers Australia collaboration with the aim to further enhance the flex response of modern surfboards. Spine-Tek features a precision engineered spine/stringer made from a unique blend of fibreglass and resin which replaces the original wooden stringer. This revolutionary tech is based on the principles of elastic energy; the board flexes under pressure and then rapidly returns to its original rocker-line. The speed of this response is what gives your surfboard that 'electric', zingy feel which remains for the life of the board. Watch the video below for a full technology breakdown from Britt Merrick.
