There is nothing scarier as a base runner and coach than this situation and it all comes down to doing this one thing!

Non verbal communication.

In this situation, while Hawaii won the game, this could have been a totally different video. We need to protect the runner at third and not swing the bat.

So, coaches, first give the take sign. Batters then need to indicate that they got it. Then the base runner needs to indicate that they know the sign too. All of this communication will allow you to safely and successfully steal home.

Base runners we want to make sure to protect yourself and if the batter doesn’t indicate that he will take the pitch you should not go as taking a bat or ball to the face is not worth it.
