Mopar’s 1,000hp Challenger Drag Pak Gets Bolted Together

The supercharged 354 Hemi starts out as a cast-iron 6.1L piece (4.060-inch bore) that’s destroked by using a 3.400-inch crank (verses the 3.58-inch stroke on the stock 6.1L). The heads used are what Mopar calls “Big Gas” truck heads from 6.4L pickups. They look identical to the passenger car heads found on the SRT 392/Scat Pack engines, except the aluminum alloy spec is different and the material is denser to combat detonation within the chamber that heavy-duty trucks endure when hauling over 10,000 pounds up a mountain pass. So, it made perfect sense to use them on the supercharged Drag Pak engine.
The Drag Pak uses a common TH400 three-speed automatic, So, here’s an exclusive, behind the scenes look at one of these eight-second, 1,000hp, Hemi-powered Stockers coming together.
