Target shooting faces scrutiny after 2 wildfires ignite in Saratoga Springs

A second brush fire ignited on Lake Mountain in Saratoga Springs, one day after a fire threatened homes near the Saratoga Springs Temple.

Officials said target shooting sparked both wildfires on Lake Mountain in Saratoga Springs this weekend.

“I think it's a bad time of year to go target shooting. It's windy, it's hot, it's dry. It's not going to end up well,” said Jeff Wyler, who lives near the Stillwater Fire.

The fire was mapped at 30.8 acres and is 35% contained. Pockets of heat remain within the burn area, particularly around juniper trees, according to Utah Fire Info.

It has been named the Still Water Fire and is not currently threatening any homes.
