I gave the line "I should have practiced my scales" a figurative meaning. We might have thought it needed a literal interpretation only if we'd assumed that the line had no connection with the following "I should not be attracted to males", which I do reckon it's unlikely.

When Grant mentions Richard Burton, he could have mentioned Cary Grant, Elvis Presley, John Travolta, George Clooney, etc., if you get me.
