THE MEMORY TRAIL
By
Gary ‘SannaBlue’ Baker

Days at the movies, there on the front row,
with a screen as big as the sky,
with cowboys we rode, learning cowboy code,
and men in white hats never die.

Weekends at home, the backyards we would roam,
building forts out of cardboard and glue.
Our horses were sticks, but they knew all the tricks,
that Trigger and Champion knew.

The horses are running
their manes are a flying,
there’s thunder in the air,
a damsel is screaming,
gunslingers are slinging,
there’s danger everywhere.
And dreams come alive
when old men ride,
that long winding memory trail.

Circle red wagons and load your cap pistols,
there’s bad guys headed this way.
When we run out of caps, we don’t mind that,
we’ll bang bang and pow pow all day.

Old cowboys live best
with the memories they rest,
when they welcome the setting sun,
cause on the horse in his mind
They run till they come,
to the end of the Memory Trail…
