Part 3: Climbing the Mast Singlehanded -- No Halyards Running to Top of Mast
This video demonstrates how to climb and descend the mast in relative safety singlehanded in a situation where there are NO HALYARDS or other ropes or lines going to the top of the mast.
This is Part 3 of a 3 Part Series where:
Part 1 shows how to climb and descend the mast singlehanded on two halyards using specialized rock climbing hardware.
Part 2 shows how to climb and descend the mast singlehanded on two halyards with no specialized equipment.
Part 3 (this clip) shows how to climb and descend the mast singlehanded with no specialized equipment in a situation where there are NO HALYARDS or other ropes, lines or lifts running to the top of the mast.
Climbing the mast alone or with a crew is DANGEROUS. A small mistake could result in a serious injury or DEATH. If you are unsure about ANY of the techniques or equipment in all three of these videos: STOP. Ask for help from an expert. Take a formal course. CLIMBING THE MAST IS ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS THINGS THAT WE DO AS SAILORS.
