My thanks to viewer Lothar Renz who has kindly provided my with this, my first Schuco casting. It is a 1/66 scale model of the Volkswagen Scirocco TS first generation. Introduced in 1975, it lasted only one year in Schuco's 300 'Super Schnell' series before the company went bankrupt. It came in three colours; silver, or dark or light green. It was available with more colour variations when it was produced by Brazilian manufacturer Miniaturas REI under licence.

Volkswagen's Scirocco was the 1974 successor to the Karmann Ghia. Based on the Golf platform and styled by Giorgietto Giugiaro, the Scirocco underwent extensive reengineering to ensure its performance matched its striking looks. The GTi version of 1976 also set the stage for the Golf GTi which arrived later that year. The first generation car was built up until 1981 when it was replaced by the second generation Scirocco.

Lothar provided me with an example that had bent axles and some scruffy paintwork. Schuco 300 series castings are push-fit rather than being secured with more typical rivets, though the rear is held in place by two split rivets on this casting.
