‘War surcharge’: Exporters hit with soaring shipping costs amid Iran conflict

Freight and Trade Alliance Director Paul Zalai discusses the soaring shipping costs amid the Middle East conflict.

“We saw that during COVID, there were congestion surcharges applied,” Mr Zalai told Sky News Australia.

“This time, a war surcharge, it ranges in value from about $800 USD to $4000 USD a container.”

“A much bigger issues on the exporters, again because most of our two-way trade with the Middle East, it’s predominately export focussed.”
