Seamless Lifting featuring Tracked Carrier, UNIC URW-245 Spider Crane and Glass Manipulator Head
An aquarium-build specialist appointed GGR Group to assist with a full glazing replacement of a large ocean display tank at a major UK attraction. The project required the removal and installation of large-format panels weighing up to 650kg within a
highly restricted internal environment, involving tight access routes, steep gradients, and complex installation requirements.
As part of the upgrade, existing glass panels were replaced with acrylic, offering improved clarity, reduced distortion, enhanced thermal insulation,
and increased impact resistance, making it a more suitable material for large-scale aquarium applications. Completed over the course of one week,
the project demanded a carefully co-ordinated lifting strategy to ensure safe and precise handling throughout.
The project presented a combination of spatial, operational, and
technical constraints:
• Doorways as narrow as 1600mm
• A 24° gradient staircase measuring only 1654mm wide
• Glazing panels up to 3300mm x 1380mm x 60mm
• Internal tank working areas as tight as 1932mm wide
• Restricted lifting headroom of 4581mm
• Installation at a -15° angle
These constraints required compact equipment, precise control, and a
carefully sequenced approach throughout the operation.
To address these challenges, GGR Group developed a fully integrated
lifting solution, combining multiple specialist machines, each selected
for a specific role within the operation.
