2016 AACTA Awards - Paul Hogan Tribute

The Seven Network presented the 2016 AACTA Awards on Wednesday 7th December, 2016.

On this night, Paul Hogan was awarded one of the film industry's highest honours — the Longford Lyell Award — for outstanding contribution to the Australian screen.

The Longford Lyell Award has also been won by Hollywood stars Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Jack Thompson and director Peter Weir.

Paul Hogan, AM is an Australian comedian, actor and television presenter who won three Logies, was an Australian of the Year in 1985, was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) "for service to tourism and entertainment" in 1986 and become the nation’s most-recognised star.

Hogan was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance as outback adventurer Michael "Crocodile" Dundee in Crocodile Dundee (1986), which is still the most successful Australian box office hit of all time.

Domestically, Crocodile Dundee grossed $47.7 million and is still the highest-grossing local film.

'They wanted to dub Dundee into American but I wouldn't let them', he said.

In 1987, Paul Hogan shared co-hosting duties for the 59th Academy Awards, with Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn.

The AACTA Awards have been honouring the country's TV and film industry for six years as the continuum of the AFI Awards which have been running since 1958.
