Our totally new DMM Chorus preset in the TC Electronic Alter Ego X4 was modeled after a genuine vintage Deluxe Memory Man from the Late 70's. The sonic signature of this famous delay has a perfect balance of warm analog repeats that continue into a dark abyss. When pushed into self oscillation, the tone of the delayed signal seems to morph into different colors and textures and this was the first characteristic we absolutely had to have in our Alter Ego's DMM Chorus preset. The vintage pedal's coveted bucket brigade devices also have a specific frequency range that we were eager to match with TC's powerful software. Plus, we analyzed the modulation of the DMM and carefully matched the waveform, speed and depth to produce an authentic wavering sound in the wet signal that sets this analog delay apart from all others.
