Montego Bay Floods April 2022

Yesterday, April 19, 2022 Montego Bay was deluged with devastating consequences. Police reported that at approximately 3:30 pm, four persons, believed to be members of one family, while travelling in a vehicle in the Westgate vicinity of the parish was overwhelmed when the Barnett River overflowed its bank and swept away the motor vehicle.

Accounts are that two of the occupants, the driver and another female, managed to escape before the vehicle plunged into the river with a woman and a child on board.
Sources are reporting that after several hours of searching, the body of a female, believed to be that of the child, was found.

The police are yet to identity of the body, while the search is still on for the other occupant of the vehicle.

The search is being undertaken by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard, the Jamaica Fire Brigade, and the St James Municipal Corporation working in tandem.
